Vacation day 46

Today is the last time I'm at this WiFi spot because on Monday we are going back to Stockholm again. It takes at least a couple of days I think.. but longer than the trip down because we are taking a slight detour via the French Riviera, Monaco and Italy. Maybe the toilets along the way there are fresher than the ones we visited in France on the way down. Morre didn't like them at all. Ha, ha! But that's obviously not why we go on a different route. We want to see something new.. not just a bunch of rest stops along the highway. I'll make sure the camera is fully charged and hope that we don't drive past something funny when it's dark or I'm asleep and miss something. Now I'm going out to enjoy this day's +38 degrees Celsius and sunshine. Bye for now!

Vacation day 44

We went to Murcia in the evening but we did not arrive until quite late because we did other things on the way there. I purchased a new MP3 player because my old one died. We walked around and took some pictures.. but at midnight they put out all the lights that light up the nice buildings so we had to go home instead. It was quite nice anyway to walk in Murcia. At half past twelve in the evening it was +27 degrees Celsius.

Vacation day 43

Today we went to Torre Pacheco. Not that there's very much to do there.. we just looked for a store. We didn't find it so we went down to the beach at Los Narejos located in Los Alcázares. If you look closely at photo 2 you can see some of the high rises at La Manga on the other side of the Mar Menor.

Vacation day 41

This day was perfect to head up.. to 1583m above sea level. When we were at the very top of Sierra Espuña I felt a little dizzy, otherwise it was awesome with the view and the silence. I'd happily have stayed there for a few hours but I don't think the military would have approved of. There were huge warning signs at the entrance to their area. Authorities can be somewhat scary sometimes.. all the times I have seen police and guardia civil, they have been equipped with numerous weapons. About a week ago we were stopped on the highway. It was just a routine check but one becomes a little nervous when they are standing right next to you with their weapons. Well, after the Sierra Espuña we went to Lorca. We weren't there for long.. but I managed to take a photo of an old castillo (castle) anyway. =) On the way home we stopped at Águilas because we had seen on the news that they had floods.. but not when we got there. We walked a bit along the beach and enjoyed the evening sun.

Vacation day 40

Today we were in Cartagena. There is a staircase that not many tourists are aware of.. surrounded by cool graffiti. =) We read in the newspaper that Audi MedCup would be in town so we checked out the boats. There was a Swedish boat: Artemis. Apparently it did well last year.. they came third. When we had enough of the sea we went into the city through the narrow streets. It is so cozy with small coffeehouses and shops.. and the casino which is in an old building: Palacio del Marques de Casatilly. Then there are lots of different ruins which are quite well preserved. After an enjoyable day out in the sunshine we went and bought some food.. and got to taste Mojito (yes, in the food store). Well it was okay.. but nothing I would buy myself.

Vacation day 39

Torrevieja has a nice sea view and a large supermarket that is open until 24, but otherwise it's not a fun city. After an hour there we went to Guardamar del Segura. Maybe I'm a bit childish but I can't get enough of cute little animals. =)

Vacation day 36

We were in Murcia today. The road there winds its way through the somewhat high mountains. The speed limit is 80 km/h but most people drive 100 km/h. People drive like maniacs here.. we have seen several accidents along the roads. The last seemed to have happened just a few moments before we went by. The car lay on its side just on the edge of a cliff (yes, we drove around in the mountains as usual). The driver sat next to the car on the ground and looked shocked. After we had seen that we went a little slower..

Vacation day 35

Today we explored what seems to be this years theme: mountains. It was a pretty fun trip. As a maximum we were about 470 meters above sea level, but next week it will be more. =) Sadly enough, it was cloudy, but later in the day the sunshine was back again.

Vacation day 34

Today we relaxed in the park in Cartagena. We sat on a bench and enjoyed the view. After a while a peacock joined us. =) On the way home from Cartagena, it's good if you are in the correct lane in good time (especially if you drive 120km/h). This particular day it was pretty empty on the way but otherwise it's always a minor traffic jam. People slow down because they don't really know where they're going (the huge signs doesn't seem to help much).

Vacation day 33

Today we went on a spontaneous trip without any specific goal.. we ended up in the middle of nowhere where everyone stared at us as if we were aliens. It seemed like they had never seen tourists. I photographed a wall today.. maybe not as nice as the one in San Pedro del Pinatar.. but more fun than a gray wall. :)

Vacation day 31

In pet shops here in Spain you can find anything; birds, chameleons, snakes, rodents, cats, dogs and cute tortugas (turtles). I don't really know what the turtle on top is doing.. maybe stretching after all the climbing. =)

Vacation Day 30

We went to Guardamar del Segura. There was not that much to see in town so we stopped at a park that was pretty relaxing with lots of trees that provided shade. It was needed because it was +39 degrees Celsius. I photographed the cars panel so that I have evidence. Ha, ha! If you wonder why it says Elche it's because the radio station we were listening to was Los 40 Elche. =) Time goes by way too fast. Morre and I left Sweden on July 13 and soon it's time to start thinking about the journey home.

Vacation Day 29

Today we went to a beach in Lo Pagán. Along the promenade, people had made cool shapes of sand. If you wanted you could give a few pennies to those who had worked so hard. Since I was taking photos it seemed silly not to give anything, so I gave some euros.

The most popular drink seems to be mojitos. Wherever you go, it's mojitos, mojitos, mojitos. Speaking of drinking, I like Spain because they have a lot of food and drink tastings at the grocery store. I tested something from J&B.. it was only around 15% alcohol, but it felt like much more. Last week I tasted a liqueur that was yummy. :)

Vacation day 25

Yecla and Jumilla was the destination for today's trip. We went around the cities during the siesta so we barely saw anyone.. People may not want to be outside when it is at its warmest. I don't mind the heat.. but to climb a mountain in +35 degree Celsius heat to reach a castle in Jumilla is probably nothing I would recommend. At the top we met a weird Spanish guy who showed us how to tear apart the irrigation tubing to get water to cool off with. Because the castle was closed we rested a while and then we went back down. When we got home I was exhausted.
